Cathedral artist signs new book, shares creative journey of his work
December 3 from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm
Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels tapestry artist John Nava autographs his forthcoming book “Sacred Material: Art of the Tapestries of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels” after the 8 and 10 a.m. Masses on Dec. 3.
The book details the historic saga of the creation of the “Communion of Saints,” the “Baptism of the Lord,” and the “New Jerusalem,” the monumental three-panel tapestry by Nava.
The artist shares the unprecedented journey of his tapestries from oils on canvas in his Ojai studio and the legendary looms of Belgium, to the walls of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles.
“Sacred Material: Art of the Tapestries of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels” includes a complete hagiography — the writing of the lives of saints — of the 135 saints and blessed individuals portrayed in the world’s greatest modern-day tapestry commission.
The book will be available soon in the Cathedral Gift Shop.
