‘“Who’s my equal?” There ain’t one’

A reflection on the daily readings by Father Perry.
+ The observable universe is estimated to contain 200 billion to 2 trillion galaxies.
+ The number of stars in a galaxy varies, but assuming an average of 100 billion stars per galaxy means that there are about 1 billion trillion stars.
+ And the Lord God said, the Holy One said: “To whom can you liken me as an equal? Lift up your eyes on high and see who has created these things.”
+ To be in harmony with that God of the universe — creator of all — to open to God’s grace and created love, to allow all of the entities of healing and renewing and energy and development and holding together and pulling apart — or to put in biblical terms, “to walk with God” — is really the only thing that makes sense.
In God’s and nature’s, and creation’s time and manner, we are assured that God will take care of us, will take us by the hand, will strengthen us, will lift us up, will heal our ills. The Lord will infuse us with love and grace, and claim us as his own. And God will give us rest and lighten our load and lift our burdens.
+ It’s a no-brainer! Just open your eyes. Count the stars, if you can (you cannot!) — 1 billion trillion stars on average per galaxy.
+ Oh, Adam and Eve (a story), how silly you were. Equal to God? Really? And you believe that silly serpent (a story)?
+ Count those stars. That’s all one needs to do.
+ Then we will appreciate that tender, fragile, grace-filled, super-abundant, ever present, completely human and completely divine relationship we have with the God of the universe, the God of now and forever. The God who is love!
