A reflection on the daily readings by Father Perry.
+ Well, here we are. We enter the language that draws us so near to the birth story of the Christ.
We enter with the genealogy in Matthew.
It is an explosion of theology, history, lineage, and connecting Jesus to be born, as the completion of the ages having begun with Abraham and reaching the great climax in the birth of the savior.
In particular, the mention of the three set of 14 generations, it’s still a little too complicated for me to understand.
Please, if you can do so, read the footnotes to this section of Matthew’s Gospel.
All you need do is click on MT 1:1-17 when you open the text in the www.USCCB.org‘s “Scriptures of the Day.”
It is amazing. It is chock-full of delights, theology, history and wonder, and a nice fulfillment of the “beginnings” highlighted in our “beginnings” in Genesis.
+ No unpacking it here on my part; there is much too much to check out. But I do recommend checking it out at your leisure. What a way to start Matthew!
+ Finally, get ready, because we are truly approaching the end that is the beginning, that is the birth of the One we have been and are waiting for.
Grab hold of the One who has come to grab hold of us and to bring us into an eternal life of grace with him — the One.
