Once you ‘know’ the truth, it is essential to put it into action

A reflection on the daily readings by Father Perry.

“Knowing” and “doing” are essentially connected to one another, especially in the living out of our faith.

Once you “know” the truth, it is essential to “do” the truth — to put it into action.

To not “do” the truth that we have come to know makes us liars and sinners, and erodes our spiritual integrity.

To “do” the truth that we have come to “know” transforms us and makes us fully alive!

+ In yesterday’s readings, an elder man moved by the Holy Spirit went to give witness to the truth that he had come to “know” in the Spirit. He prophesied the divinely revealed inner truth about the “one who was to come” — the Christ.

+ How appropriate that today another elder — this time a woman — also came forward and spoke the truth about the child, obviously moved by the Spirit of God to do so.

+ To “know” and “do” was their final work as truth- and faith-filled people of God.

It was their finest witness. This same “knowing” and “doing” is why we are here; it is what we are to do.

It is our truth-filled and faith-filled reason for and most fulfilling part of being God’s people in the here and now.
