+ The gift the Hebrewsgives to us is a description of the Christ as the prefect representation, connection, presence, reality, gift, sacrifice, oblation, offering, high priest — God presence — in our midst.
It is the groundwork for the theological reflection that the best way — if not the only way (whether it be known or unknown by us) — to the Father is through the Christ, the Holy One.
+ No wonder, then, that even unclean spirits could recognize with such clarity and just had to shout out: “You are the Son of God.”
In our best of liturgies, our simplest of prayers, our most harmonious songs, and in the quiet of our hearts, we are invited both communally and individually to come to that recognition.
When we do — hopefully peacefully and regularly — we know we have gotten it, and understand it with our hearts and souls when we sing out with the psalmist: “Here am I Lord, I come to do your will.”
+ Thank you, St. Agnes, for this witness by the living and the giving of your life in such a complete trust in this truth.
