+Hebrews today gives a very sober reading or explanation for the proper “way of life” and an “imitation of their faith”; that is, the faith of their faithful leaders.
Or another way of putting it might be to say: “The Lord is my light and my salvation.”
To know the Lord, and to walk in the “way of the Lord” is light, life, goodness, peace, hope, and blessing.
With the Lord as my light and my salvation, “Whom should I fear?”
With the Lord as my refuge, “Of whom should I be afraid?”
“Won’t he hide me in his abode?”
“Won’t he shelter me in his tent?”
“Won’t he set me on a high rock?”
+ But beware! Be careful! Pay attention!
+ Walking in darkness is very risky, and most likely we will stumble and fall. We will lose our very selves. We will become less human, less loving, less good, less righteous, and less divine.
We might even begin to look a little or even a lot like Herodias (the wife of Herod) of the scriptures today.
We might in our “less divine stature” seek harm, seek evil — or as in her case, seek the “head of John the Baptist.”
+ Nothing is impossible when walking in the darkness. Nothing is beneath us when we lose the light.
+ And we know “the way, the truth, and the life.”
We know that “discipleship in Christ is salvation, and hope, and the fullness of life.”
We know, for sure, that the truth is that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.”
Indeed, indeed, indeed: “He is our light and our salvation!”
