Do we really listen to God’s word?

A reflection on the daily readings for Tuesday of the 28th Week in Ordinary Time, by Father Perry.
+ Did God “hand them over to impurity”, or did they do that to themselves?
Wonderful language can say both things by only saying one or the other.
Language is clever and celebrates different view points, but bottom line, we have to ask ourselves: Who does what to whom — and who really is responsible for “becoming vain” in one’s reasoning and developing “senseless minds” that become “darkened”?
As the alleluia verse says so simply and bluntly: “The word of God is living an effective, able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart.”
In a way, God and God’s work make it happen; in reality, don’t we do it because we don’t really listen to that word?
+ And Jesus has to call a spade a spade, as he labels the Pharisees for who and what they are and who and what they have become: “Fools!
Yes, fools,
They just don’t get it. They just won’t listen. They just don’t see. They are fools.
And fools they remained, no matter what word they received from the word — the word made flesh!
