Security, intimacy with the Lord are at the core of our faith Posted on March 13, 2024March 13, 2024 Father Perry D. Leiker, pastor. A reflection on the daily readings, for Wednesday of the Fourth Week of Lent, by Father Perry. By Father Perry D. Leiker, pastor + To never be forgotten. Now that is a promise that satisfies at the deepest level. The Lord even put it in the most human of terms — “Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of her womb?” That is a question that clearly would shake us to the core. But the Lord answers the question, too — “Even should she forget you, I will never forget you.” This intimacy and this security offered us is also at the center of our faith. + And so when Jesus begins to talk with the same intimacy and security about his Father, sadly it does not affect those who would hear none of it. He broke the sabbath; he called God his Father, and he made himself equal to God. And for this reason they tried all the more to kill him. But here we are, only in Chapter 5 of John’s Gospel; we are seeing more and more not only who Jesus is, but also what his path was to bring him. But it would be difficult to imagine more surrender on his part. Jesus says it with total confidence — “I cannot do anything on my own. I do not seek my own will but the will of one who sent me.” Tagged Daily offering, Daily readings, Daily reflection, John, John's Gospel, Lent, March, Purple, Sabbath, Wednesday, Wednesday of the Fourth Week of Lent, Winter.
