+ With Jesus, we have an impossibly incredible scene. A woman comes from the streets drawn by this person, Jesus. She faces her own sinfulness and without any concern about what anyone else might think; she washes his feet with her tears, anoints his feet with oils, and kisses his feet.
And the contrast of this sinner, with the certainly very justified Pharisee who did nothing in comparison to this sinner’s display — oh my, how she revealed her sin, her desire for forgiveness, her humility, and her want of peace! What love! Faith was revealed once again!
This is an almost embarrassing look at the quality of our faith and our faith responses to Jesus.
Are we sorrowful for personal sinfulness like this woman? Do we claim our role as apostles of Jesus, and commit to announcing our faith in him and willingness to follow him always and at all costs like Paul?
