Not one, not two, not three, but four distinct Masses — for Christmasvigil, Christmas during the night, Christmas at dawn, and Christmas during the day.
Each of these Masses has their own set of readings, and a couple of the Masses even have optional readings. That being said, it is way too much to comment on individually.
But the common thread through all of the readings for Christmas is the joy and peace that has entered the world into and through humanity in the birth of the child Jesus.
“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; Upon those who lived in a land of gloom a light has shone.”
I believe that with all of my heart. Oh, don’t misunderstand me: There is still plenty of darkness. Just watch the news on any day of the week. But that light did come and has been seen and recognised by some and by many. My belief is that the profound truth is, that light cut through the darkness, and divinity entered into and profoundly changed humanity forever.
Humanity has been rescued and transformed. We can even say, redeemed! Just look at the cross and see what love and forgiveness can do to one, to all. Should we all not rejoice?! You bet your Christmas boots!
