God is with us!

A reflection on the daily readings by Father Perry, for Saturday of the Third Week of Advent.

+ Ah! The promise is about to be fulfilled!

There’s no stopping it now!

It is no longer “if,” but rather “when“!

God had spoken!!!

+ And so the psalmist cries out: “Justice shall flourish in his time, and fullness of peace forever!”

And the “O” antiphon addresses the Holy One: “O leader of the House of Israel … come to rescue us with your mighty power!”

+ And now we are ready to “segue” into the story of the Holy One to be born of a woman — a virgin.

The story of the promise to be fulfilled as the word is spoken into a birthed human, and in the most dramatic way possible, God becomes hu-man (and therefore, also hu-woman).

And the way that this becomes so beautifully expressed is in the name he is to receive — “Emmanuel,” or “God is with us.”

There is no doubt — not any longer, never again, and to be forever: God is with us!

The Holy One of God has entered into our humanity and to reunite the human with the divine.

Love has come! Love conquers all!

All you need is love!

(Thank you, Beatles.)
