A reflection on the daily readings, for the Seventh Day in the Octave of Christmas, by Father Perry.
+ “To those who accepted him [the word of God who became flesh and dwelt among us — Jesus the Christ, the Holy One of God] he gave power to become the children of God.”
Think of it.
Not only has power been given to us to receive adoption, to become children of God, but this power enlists our response and our cooperation and our sharing in and development of this life, this New Life in Christ.
And not only that, but fidelity to this New Life keeps us together as a People of Faith — in Christ.
This is not a one moment thing, but rather a radical change and call that grows and grows and grows and continues to transform into a Living Truth and is truly “of God.”
Once again we hear of and celebrate that Light that has pierced the Darkness; that is how “All things came to be — yes, through him — and without him; indeed, nothing came to be.”
For sure, this is ultimately described best only as that goodness we call grace that blesses and transforms and makes us always new and always more: “From his fullness we have all received, grace in place of grace.”
Does it ever end, O Lord? Can you possibly give more?
Are you ready for this fullness of Love and Grace?
“Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice!”
