+ And so, a Pharisee named Gamaliel speaks prophetically and wisely. We will hear his wisdom tomorrow. But as for today, the Sanhedrin were just ticked off. They were in a tizzy. Nothing was going right for them in their dealings with these two apostles.
But this story is still in its development stage!
+ Here, in John’s Gospel, Jesus claims his role and rightful place as Son of God, testifying to what he has “seen and heard,” and again claiming his role and relationship with his Father as he is the only Son.
This week, we are in something like a divine dance with the Son of God declaring his special role and relationship to his Father, and calling us to faith in all that he reveals to us about himself.
This was apparently enough for St. Stanislaus to give his life as a martyr in the church. Probably, none of us will ever be called to die for our faith, but I am pretty sure we are all being called to live for our faith.
