Hearing, acting on God’s word makes us little bros. of Jesus!

Father Perry D. Leiker, pastor.

+ Jesus said it straight out and simply —
“My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.”
He wasn’t speaking a literal truth, but something much deeper. The connectedness in spirit is really where real relationships happen; it is even deeper than blood relationships. It happens when two souls touch. It happens, and then people will say things like, “She’s more my sister than my real sister.”
And Jesus talks about not just hearing what the Father says, but acting on it. It is doing what the first reading speaks about, that is, living justly, doing what is right and good.
And so the psalm echoes it demonstrably, as we repeat —
“Guide me, Lord, in the way of your commands.”
And it talks about, “walking in the law of the Lord” — and being “blameless” and “meditating” and “understanding” and “discerning,” and “keeping your law continually.”
And the Gospel verse echoes it —
“Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it.”
Yes, hearing and acting on the word of God makes us little bros. of Jesus!
