“Then the wolf shall be a guest of the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat; The calf and the young lion shall browse together, with a little child to guide them./ The lion shall eat hay like the ox.”
What an image! What a reality! What a new life because the messiah has come and everything is new! Everything is different! Everything is Christ-filled! And what a time it will be, indeed.
“Justice shall flourish in his time, and fullness of peace for ever.”
And in Luke 10, Jesus, filled with the Spirit, blurted out —
“I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth.”
And Jesus also acknowledged the need to stand before the mysteries of God like little children: open to wonder and surprise, open to mystical revelation. And then Jesus placed the stamp of approval upon the disciples, stating that their eyes and their sight have been privileged and blessed, and their ears have been opened to hear what kings and prophets before them failed to hear.
These readings and this psalm today make it obvious why we celebrate Advent year after year, so that we can appreciate the wonders of the coming of the Christ into our lives again deeper and deeper, and still deeper!
