Then it goes, well, maybe not crazy, but a little too much —
“With fasting, and weeping, and mourning.”
Really, is that what it is all about? If fasting and weeping and mourning help, go for it! But Lent is about something even deeper. It is about change of heart!
Return to the Lord! That says it a little better!
The second reading names us as “ambassadors for Christ”! Wow! Yikes! And so, we should take the Gospel to heart.
Don’t do anything for Lent to impress anybody. Do it to change, grow, evolve, become more, enliven, burst forth into something more!
By Easter, may we all find something much deeper and much more loving within each of us! O! What a prayer inside that responsorial psalm —
