Three questions pop up in the two readings today (First reading; Gospel reading): 1) “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you became believers?” 2) “How were you baptized?” 3) “Do you believe now?”
All of them are swimming around the same issue, but from different vantage points. They are all about “coming to know” and “coming to understand” and “coming to believe and respond in faith.” I think it is all process and takes time and maturing and opening deeper and deeper to the Spirit of Truth.
Here we are. Days before the great feast of Pentecost. Have we been “filled with the Holy Spirit” — “anointed in God“? + Lord, I take great solace in the two-sided coin that you speak to me in the Gospel. You say: I/we will “scatter … and leave you alone.” But, Jesus, you also say: “I have told you this so that you [I/we] might have peace in me.”
Let us pray
Give me that peace and confidence and trust in your word. Help me to walk your way and listen to your word and speak your truth so that I might have your Life growing stronger in me today!
