How beautiful the feet

Daily reflection for the Feast of St. Andrew, apostle.
Perspective isn’t everything, but perspective certainly can give us wonderful and unique ways of seeing things.
“How beautiful are the feet of those who bring the good news.”
Now, that’s perspective. One would think it would be: “How beautiful the mouths that speak”; or “How beautiful the ears that have heard the call — the message”; or “How beautiful the eyes that have seen and understood”; or “How beautiful the hearts that have melted in love for what they have received.”
Any of these would seem to be better than the feet!
+ And yet, with a little perspective, we can appreciate what those feet have done.
They carried the body with the mouths that would preach, with the ears that would hear, with the eyes that would surely see, with the hearts that could be moved to deep faith.
Those feet carried all of that from place to place, person to person, opening the possibility for faith to be received, heard, planted in hearts, and then producing that fruit of the kingdom of God.
The feet! That’s what got Andrew there.
The feet! That’s what allowed him to live out the call that he received from Jesus the Christ.
The feet! Dirty with dust and covered in grime, but absolutely sublime because the feet were completely at the service of the wandering preacher and gave rise to the wandering Gospel that brought Christ to others and others to Christ.
+ And Jesus said: “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Thank you brothers, Andrew and Peter, for hearing the call and responding.
Thank you brothers, Andrew and Peter, for the endless walking on your beautiful feet that carried you and carried the word of God!
