We are asked in faith to attempt to experience the same during this Lent. We are invited to strip away comforts, lessen our dependence on things that make us feel good, and deny our use of whatever makes us feel safe and secure.

Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday on Feb. 26 and Good Friday on April 10. In addition, all Catholics 14 and older must abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, all the Fridays of Lent, and Good Friday. But what is the difference between “abstinence” and “fasting”?
